The speed of light is defined as the speed with which a light photon travels in the vacuum It is denoted by the alphabet c and measured using SI unit m s The value of velocity of light or value of c is a constant at any part of the universe This physical constant has multiple applications at various disciplines of physics
  • Speed of Light | Facts, Information, History Definition
The speed of light’s exact value is defined as 299 792 458 meters per second or approximately 300 000 km 186 000 mi per second in a vacuum

In terms of seconds, light travels at around 300,000 kilometers per second or 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum Click for more
  • What Is Refractive Index? - BYJUS
The ratio between the speed of light in medium to speed in a vacuum is the refractive index When light travels in a medium other than the vacuum, the atoms of that medium continually absorb and re-emit the particles of light, slowing down the speed light In this article, let us discuss the r efractive index of water and various mediums
  • The Light Wave and Colour Formula: - BYJUS
The visible light is released and absorbed by a small packet called photons and shows both wave and particles characteristics and this property are known as wave-particle duality Light waves can be measured in two different ways The amplitude of the wave Frequency of the wave along with the number of waves per second
  • What Are Electromagnetic Waves? - BYJUS
What is the wavelength of the photon of infrared light with the frequency 2 5 x 10 14 Hz? Since infrared light is a part of electromagnetic spectrum, the relation between the wavelength, frequency, and velocity is given by the formula: \ (\begin {array} {l}c=f\lambda\end {array} \) Consider c = 3 x 10 8 m s -1
  • What Is Luminiferous Ether or Aether? - BYJUS
The speed of light was measured in the experiment by analyzing the interference fringes pattern that resulted when the light had passed through the two perpendicular arms of the interferometer Michelson and Morley observed that light traveled faster along an arm which was oriented in the same direction as the ether
  • What Is the Electromagnetic Spectrum? - BYJUS
The visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum is the reason for all visual aids in daily life This is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that helps us to see all objects, including colours The X-rays discovered by Roentgen proved to be useful in medicine for detecting many ailments or deformities in bones

de Broglie Waves It is said that matter has a dual nature of wave particles de Broglie waves, named after the discoverer Louis de Broglie, is the property of a material object that varies in time or space while behaving similarly to waves It is also called matter-waves It holds great similarity to the dual nature of light, which behaves as a particle and wave that has been proven
  • Cherenkov Radiation and Cherenkov Light - BYJUS
The speed of light in a vacuum is a constant c, yet the speed of light in a medium is lesser than c This indicates that the light can travel faster in the medium, yet slower than the speed of light When a high-speed electron passes through a dielectric medium, the electromagnetic field gets disturbed and electrically polarized
